Straining Tinctures, Extracts, and Glycerites
It took me a mere moment to strain this chamomile tincture because of a vegan drinks maker. I know that sounds odd, but it's absolutely true.
The apparatus goes by a couple of different names: ChufaMix or Veggiefino. Whatever you call it, it has become an indispensable piece of equipment for straining tinctures, extracts, and particularly glycerites in my lab.
There are only 3 parts and no electricity is needed. Here's how I strained this chamomile tincture in a matter of moments.
The Apparatus
Here are the parts (OK, I just realized I wasn't entirely truthful above, there are actually 4 parts – a lid is included – but I never use it, so I forgot momentarily)Here are the 3 bits I use:
- container
- straining filtery thing
- bowling pin (I know it's not really a bowling, pin, but I think it looks a bit like one)
Place the strainy filter thingy into the container.
Pour infusion into the container, then use the 'bowling pin' to press and extract as much liquid as possible.
Remove filter and discard spent material.
Pour your tincture into bottles.
Clean the apparatus throughly and store dry.
Ta daa!
If you're into making glycerites, this is an incredibly useful and time saving device. Here's the best part: it's not even all that pricey!
