Coco Silicone (INCI: coco caprylate).
Guess Where it Comes From?
Yeah, I know you guessed it in a flash when you saw the 'coco' part of the name, and you were 100% correct. It's sourced from coconut.
Technically, coco silicone is the ester of caprylic acid with fatty alcohols from coconut oil.
Who's Ester?
Esters are formed by condensing an acid with an alcohol. Esters are all over the place. Almost all naturally occuring oils (and fats) are the fatty acid esters of glycerine (also known as glycerol).
So, Plant-based and Functional Too?
So they claim. I've been playing around with this ingredient and I have a few things planned (think curls). I promise to update.

I need something natural to go with the Velsan. Also, Enovik has a natural, plant derived Nylon 12, that is amazing. I've done extensive tests with powdered cosmetics and I am in love. Everything Nylon 10 is, but natural. I just can't afford to buy it alone right now. Poo.

I have been curious, but not quite enough to order it yet (I am seriously trying to limit myself a bit on the ingredients.. there's SO much to learn about and I need to go into a bit of depth before I feel I really know an ingredient). I wish I could promise you that, but I have no personal experience with silicones, and have no immediate intention of purchasing them - even for experimental use.
